Social Innovation and Sustainable Rural Development - 9. kesäakatemia Suomessa

Topic: What is the potential of Social Innovation in the context of Sustainable Rural Development?

The 9th Summer Academy aims to discuss the potential of social innovation in rural areas and its importance as a source for development and even as a precondition of survival, especially of remote rural areas which face serious challenges: decreasing and aging population, disappearing services and long distances to reach them, as well as lack of work opportunities.

How these challenges can be met will be explored in the Summer Academy through both practical work and lectures. The discussion themes include:
 Everybody speaks about Social Innovation – what does that actually mean
 The essence of social welfare and social movements – how to place these concepts in rural contexts
 Economic structures change – how is this reflected in Community Planning
 Rural Entrepreneurship and its potential to exploit Social Innovativeness
 Govenance as a tool for supporting Social Innovation
 Communities as resources and beneficiaries of Social Innovation

The Target Group: managers and animators of rural development, community developers, researchers, policy makers, local and regional authorities, training providers and welfare workers

The 9th Summer Academy welcomes participants from all over Europe, south, north, east and west, who are working in the field of rural development. Professional people working in local or regional authorities, development agencies, LEADER and other local action groups, NGOs or other local groups active in rural development are welcome. The course is designed for 40 participants, who will be invited to share their experiences, to acquire new knowledge and skills and to benefit from the wide networking opportunities offered by Euracademy Association. Participants should have a reasonable command of English.
